If you’ve come to New Zealand chasing the ultimate adrenaline rush, Nevis Bungy is the holy grail. Suspended 134 metres above the Nevis River canyon, this is the highest bungy jump in the country – and one of the most spectacular. The purpose-built cable car whisks you out over the chasm, and as you peer down at the ribbon of water far below, your heart will be pounding. The jump itself is a heart-stopping freefall that feels like it lasts forever, followed by a pendulum swing that bounces you high above the canyon walls. It’s a truly unforgettable experience that combines raw terror with jaw-dropping scenery.
Highlights & What to See
- The jump itself: Plunge 134 metres into a sheer-sided canyon – the highest bungy in New Zealand and one of the highest in the world.
- The cable car ride: The journey to the jump pod is an experience in itself, giving you panoramic views of the Southern Alps and the braided Nevis River.
- Optional touches: You can choose to touch the water (ask for a 'dip') or go in a tandem jump with a friend.
- Spectator experience: Non-jumpers can ride the cable car to the pod and watch the action – a great photo op.
- Nearby Queenstown: The jump is operated by AJ Hackett Bungy, with a base in Queenstown, so you can easily combine it with other adventure activities.
Suggested Time to Spend
Plan for a half-day trip from Queenstown (allow 3–4 hours total). The check-in, safety briefing, cable car ride, and jump itself take about 1.5 hours, but you’ll want extra time for photos and to savour the experience. If you’re doing multiple jumps or bungy-related activities, a full day is easy to fill.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining

- Wanaka: A beautiful lakeside town with its own adventure scene and the famous Wanaka Tree.
- Milford Sound: A day trip from Queenstown offers some of the most dramatic fjord scenery in the world.
