Banks Peninsula Track offers a stunning multi-day hike through volcanic landscapes, coastal cliffs, and lush native bush on the rugged Banks Peninsula near Christchurch. This private track provides a more intimate and less crowded alternative to the famous Abel Tasman or Milford tracks, with comfortable DOC huts and optional guided walks. The track showcases dramatic sea views, secluded beaches, and abundant birdlife, including the rare yellow-eyed penguin and Hector's dolphin.

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 3 to 4 days for the full 35 km loop track, walking 8–12 km per day. The track is well-marked but moderately challenging with some steep sections. Most walkers start from Akaroa and book huts in advance. You can also do day walks on parts of the track, but the full loop is recommended for the complete experience.
